As a general rule of thumb in the car collecting hobby, it’s always good to focus on the first or last series of any particularly desirable model. Thus, the 1954 and 1958 356 Speedster’s being the example of this rule.
This particular numbers matching car was the 129th Speedster made in the first year of production in 1954. The first 200 Speedster built by Reutter were actually Pre-A Cabriolet bodies that were modified into Speedsters. Thus adding an additional level of craftsmanship to these first 200 Speedsters made at the factory.
This car was originally painted Speedster Blue with a Cream Leatherette interior from the factory. Now it looks beautiful in its black/red combination and would be a fun car to repaint its original (desirable) color combo years down the road.
It was religiously mechanically maintained while in the Huffman 356 Collection and it really shows in how well it drives. Note, the car has later Solex Carbs and air cleaners that certainly add to the drivability of this Pre-A Speedster.
This Pre-A Speedster needs nothing and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.
